DQE to produce 'Toomai The Story of an Elephant Boy'

MUMBAI: Hyderabad-based DQ Entertainment (DQE) has announced the development and production of the live action TV series, Toomai - The Story of an Elephant Boy.

Adapted from Rudyard Kipling‘s Toomai of the Elephants, the show has an estimated production budget of $ 10.9 million - $12.3 million that will be raised through pre-sales.

The series is due for completion by late 2010 for an early 2011 release and is supported by ABC, Australia and other major global broadcasters.

DQE will premiere trailers of the live action series at Mipcom, Cannes, along with pre-sales agreements with major European broadcasters and distributors.

Targeting the under 14-year-olds, the cast of the series will consist of three actors from Europe and one from India.

Says DQE Group CEO Tapaas Chakravarti, "We are delighted to bring Rudyard Kipling‘s classic character ‘Toomai‘ to life for a whole new generation of children. We are grateful for the starting support from ABC, Australia and expecting more confirmations post the Cannes Mipcom festival."
