Warner Bros floats new company to integrate DC Comics business

MUMBAI: Undaunted by the news of Disney acquiring Marvel Comics, Warner Bros Entertainment (WBEI) has created a new company, DC Entertainment, to realise the power and value of the DC Comics brand and characters across all platforms.

DC Entertainment will be responsible to strategically integrate the DC Comics business, brand and characters deeply into Warner Bros Entertainment and all its content and distribution businesses.

This move will try to capture corporate synergy for the DC brand across films, videogames, television and other media formats. This is quite similar to the manner in which Warner Bros focused its efforts on the Harry Potter brand through a single management group.

Diane Nelson, who will head DC Entertainment, will continue to maintain control over the Harry Potter brand as well.

Said Nelson, "The founding of DC Entertainment fully recognises our desire to provide both the DC properties and fans the type of content that is only possible through a concerted cross-company, multi-platform effort."

It is not yet known whether this move will result in a spate of hot new games based on DC properties. Though, Batman: Arkham Asylum, created and released before the launch of the new division, is evidence that DC characters can be part of excellent and highly popular games.
