• Media bigwigs to share notes at Promax's global conference in LA

    The LA Convention Center will be the playground of the global television industry‘s best known names , for four days from 26 June.
    The Promax&BDA global conference in Los Angeles next week will feature Jamie Kellner, one of the most powerful players in world television, as the opening keynote speaker. Kellner, founder of the Fox Network and the WB Television Network is now chairman and CEO of Turner Broadcasting System Inc, heading domestic and international networks such as TBS Superstation, TNT, The WB Network, Cartoon Network, Turner Classic Movies, Turner South and many more, including the CNN News Group.


    NBC‘s entertainment president Jeff Zucker - the man behind Fear Factor, The Weakest Link and supersized episodes of TV‘s top comedies, will be on the opening day panel along wtih Mindshare North America‘s national broadcasting president Marc Goldstein and Endeavour founding partner Ari Emanuel. Other sessions will have branding and design specialist Lee Hunt scouring the TV globe to bring the best from the cable, broadband and satellite universe. The 24th annual BDA awards will be given away for the coolest creations for the screen on 27 June, while the Promax awards the following evening will feature prime examples of promotion and marketing excellence in the media industry. Key players from the world‘s advertising community will be on hand at the four day show to demonstrate how creative partnerships can boost ratings and revenue.

    Liberate Technologies and sportscaster ESPN have got together to deliver enhanced programming on the Liberate TV Platform Compact software.
    Liberate enables cable programmers and operators to provide enhanced programming and applications based on open-standards, with access to an array of interactive content and services. ESPN executive VP, affiliate sales and marketing Sean Bratches says compelling interactive television content was another significant way that the channle could create value for its affiliates.


    Initial offerings of the enhanced programming include

    # ESPN Today Plus VoD - a virtual channel with interactive sports information and advertisements; it will allow sports fans to participate in the game with data feeds from ESPN and links to commerce and advertising options. ESPN Today Plus VoD will be integrated with the Liberate VoD Hub product enabling viewers to order short form and long form VoD content. Additionally, viewers will be able to tailor the "on demand" content delivered to them.

    # Synchronous programming - will provide viewers with the ability to get statistics related to the programming on the screen. Viewers will be able to receive interactive ticker information while watching ESPN‘s programming.

    # ESPN Extra - 24/7 Interactive sports - a 24 hour a day, seven days per week real-time information update including scores, headlines, news stories, sports information and statistics. This will also include commerce and enhanced advertising opportunities.
