  • Akhilesh Yadav, Ekta Kapoor, Yuvraj, Sonu Nigam and John Abraham amongst the inaugural India TV Yuva Awards Winners

    MUMBAI : India TV honoured youth icons at a glittering ceremony held in New Delhi on Monday. The awards, given away in various categories like ? Politics, Sports, Music, Television and Business etc.

    While welcoming the august gathering at the awards, India TV Chairman and Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma dedicated the awards as a salute to young men and women, who through their grit and determination have inspired people and have shown exemplary leadership and extraordinary excellence with achievements much bigger than their age.

    Ritu Dhawan, India TV MD & CEO, said, "The young generation of India has shown that they can bring positive change in the mood of the country. With Yuva Awards, we want to acknowledge and salute the budding next generation of India."

    Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav won the India TV Yuva Award in the politics (male) category. Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil gave Yadav the award in the presence of eminent politicians, industrialists, actors and sportsmen. Chhavi Rajawat, a young MBA-educated girl and a sarpanch in Rajasthan village bagged the politics (female) category award. Yoga guru Swami Ramdev gave Rajawat the award.

    Team India cricketer Yuvraj Singh was given the award in the sports category (male) by BJP president Rajnath Singh. Olympic bronze winning Manipur boxer Mary Kom got the award in the sports category (female). Her husband accepted the award in her absence from Surface Transport Minister C P Joshi.

    Among TV actors, Pratyusha Banerjee, better known as Anandi in the serial Balika Vadhu bagged the best TV actor (female) award. She accepted the award from Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi. Siddharth Shukla, best known as Collector Saheb in Balika Vadhu, accepted the best TV actor (male) award from Congress leader Ambika Soni.

    Balaji Telefilms promoter Ekta Kapoor bagged the award in the Business category (female). She accepted the award from Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj. Indiabulls founders Sameer Gehlaut and Rajiv Rattan won the award in Business category (Male). Rajiv Rattan accepted the award from former Team India captain Kapil Dev.

    In the Music category, Mamta Sharma won the Music category (female), while Sonu Nigam won Music category (male) award. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and Home Minister Sushil kumar Shinde gave the awards to Mamta Sharma and Sonu Nigam respectively.

    Three youth icon awards were also given in the Special category. External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid gave the award in special category to Bollywood actor John Abraham. Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit gave the award in special category to TV host Manish Paul. Another special category award was given to Bollywood actor Rani Mukherjee, who sent a message, as she was shooting in Maldives.

    The conversation continues further with Vidhu Vinod Chopra talking about the risk involved in making Munnabhai MBBS to which he reveals, ?I never cared about the risks. I never looked at it; I mean life is a risk. You walking the street is a risk. You coming here in a car, you flying in a plane it?s a risk. The day you are born there is a risk of death so what is this business of risk.?

    The conversation takes an interesting turn when Vidhu Vinod Chopra reveals his encounter with his better half Anupama Chopra. He narrates, ?I still remember there were, you know, very prominent people sitting on both the sides. And there I was and there was 3 rows ahead was Anu, 3 or 4 rows ahead. She was like with her mother. And then I was sitting and then this song, ?Tujhe dekha to yeh jaana sanam? And I started singing, I was singing louder than Shahrukh Khan for her clearly.?
