  • CNBC-TV18 announces CFO Awards 2010 - India?s most distinguished Awards for Financial Excellence

    MUMBAI: CNBC-TV18, India?s no. 1 business medium, in association with MCX, a state-of-the-art electronic commodity futures exchange, present India?s most distinguished awards for financial excellence - the CFO Awards 2010 on October 27, 2010 in Mumbai. These awards seek to recognize the wizards of the financial world who have not only demonstrated excellence through their sheer knowledge, vision and acumen but also driven their businesses on a global platform.     Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Udayan Mukherjee, Managing Editor, CNBC-TV18 said, ?India has evolved as a global financial hub only due to the persistence of certain expertised individuals who have build empires that are inherently strong, resilient in face of crisis and nimble enough to move and capitalize opportunities.     The winners of the above category of awards are going to be selected through a robust and comprehensive judging process, based on a combination of criteria powered by CNBC Research and CNBC-TV18 editorial. CNBC Research in the first stage involved short-listing of India?s best businesses using quantitative techniques. The second stage consisted of presenting these shortlisted companies to an eminent jury panel who along with CNBC-TV18 editorial, assessed candidates through a unique judging process based on a combination of criteria including financial performance, creativity and innovation. The jury comprised of renowned experts in their respective fields such as Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC; Mr. Y. S Deosthalee, CFO, Larsen & Toubro Limited; Ms. Shikha Sharma, MD & CEO, Axis Bank; Mr. Bharat Doshi, Ex. Director, Mahindra & Mahindra and Mr. Uday kotak, Ex. VC and MD, Kotak Mahindra Bank. The candidates were also evaluated on their ability to create short-term advantage, long-term value, a competitive edge, and the demonstration of leadership in the business community. The final stage includes a process wherein the grand jury armed with the detailed dossiers comprising facts and figures for the nominations along with the quantitative analysis debated to arrive at the final winners in each category.

    "The task was to up the imagery of Amul Macho and make it young and youthful. We thought it would be nice to have a cool, easy-does-it attitude for the brand as opposed to the rugged, high-testerone positioning that most other innerwear brands have. Saif, who has recently been signed on, has a similar persona so we wanted to make the most of it.

    MUMBAI: Chuck Noland is a Fed-Ex manager who demands that everything must be on time and travels the world to make sure punctuality is on top of everything else. He has a girlfriend, Kelly, with whom he is deeply in love with and family he hardly sees. When work intrudes on Christmas Eve, Chuck has a quick gift exchange in the car and kisses Kelly goodbye. He boards a delivery plane going overseas which gets caught in a horrendous storm and crashes into the Pacific. The sole survivor Chuck washes up on a remote island along with several Fed-Ex packages that he must use for supplies. With limited luxury, he adapts to the island over the course of 1,500 nights. When Chuck finally sees his chance he rafts out on the ocean and fortunately is spotted. After a bittersweet welcome-back reception, Chuck finds Kelly has married another man and has children. But he is missing more than her. For all his life his objective was work. For four years, it was survival. Now Chuck is compelled to live.

    Cast Away is a 2000 drama film directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks. Critics had said that by focusing on one man in one setting, Cast Away takes considerable risks, but ultimately it succeeded. Tom Hanks is excellent in the role, and the movie‘s themes make it larger than a simple physical survivor story.

    Hanks was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 73rd Academy Awards for his critically acclaimed performance.
     

  • Nickelodeon's 'Play Life' Research Indicates only 25% kids play outdoors on a daily basis

    MUMBAI: It is said that playing is a basic right of every child. Would you then believe it if a research indicated that the biggest barriers to play are the parents themselves? 39% kids are not active outdoors. Infact, Outdoor Play is 3rd last on the list of daily activities for kids. Against 7.2 hours of studies, kids played outdoors just 36 mins on an average weekday.

    These are just some of the findings from the 6-city research ? ?Play Life? undertaken by Nickelodeon, India?s leading kids? entertainment channel.
