There they meet Griffin (Bell, Flags of Our Fathers), an experienced jumper, who warns him that a dangerous group of government hunters are after him, putting all those near him in danger. He thus finds himself in a war that has been raging for thousands of years between ‘Jumpers‘ and those who have sworn to kill them.

    With unexpected cameos from Diane Lane and Kristen Stewart, ?Jumper? is promisingly an enjoyable movie!

    MUMBAI: Radio Misty 94.3 fm the first and Number one fm station of North Bengal will air exclusively Mahishasura Mardini tomorrow on Mahalaya in special arrangement with Saregama- soul of India. Mahalaya is an auspicious occasion observed seven days before Durga puja and heralds the advent of Durga the goddess of supreme power. It is an invocation and invitation to the mother goddess to rise, awake and descend on earth and annihilate the evils of the world by her Supreme Goodness.

    The preparation for the Durga Puja begins much earlier but it is from the day of Mahalaya that the mind gets into the celebration. Since the early 1930s the ‘Mahishasura Mardini‘ or ‘The Annihilation of the Demon‘ has become an indispensable part of Mahalaya rendered by the enchanting voice of Birendra Krishna Bhadra through the Radio waves and marks the beginning of ‘devipaksha‘ or the period of the Durga Puja.

    Although it starts at late mid-night at around 4 am and last for two hours, the whole of Bengal rises to the scincillating rhythm of the hymns.

    MUMBAI: Omar shares his verdict on ?Wanted? directed by noted choreographer-turned-director Prabhu Deva starring the handsome hunk Salman Khan and the beautiful Ayesha Takia in the lead roles. Radhe (Salman Khan) is a hard-core gangster who works for Gani Bhai, the dreaded Mafioso. The film revolves around two gangs. Whether it‘s the Golden gang or Data Pawle‘s Gang, everybody wants the biggest piece of the lucrative cake that is Mumbai and the only way to get it is to eliminate whoever gets in the way.

    Next on Omar?s card is the much hyped and most talked about ?Dil Bole Hadippa? from the famous Yash Raj Films banner. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Aditya Chopra, starring the glamorous Rani Mukherji and the talented Shahid Kapoor. Rani Mukherji is back after a long break to win hearts of many with her new and fit look. The film tells the story of a girl Veera who lives in a small village but dreams of playing cricket in the big league.     Omar Qureshi gives his take on the latest, ?Blue Oranges?, starring Rajit Kapoor, Rati Agnihotri and Pooja Kanwal. The film is based on Shalini, the daughter of a very rich father who always wished to be an artist. Shalini was brought up in Goa where she joins the post-graduate institute of arts to pursue her artistic ambitions. It is here that she meets Kevin, who is from a modest family background and a brilliant painter.

    From the young to the old, the latest Hollywood animation, ?Up? is on Omar?s card. The film directed by Pete Docter showcase excellent visuals and a story that leaves the audience with tears of joy. Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer and Jordan Nagai contribute their voice to the film. The film is based on the story of a young man named Carl Fredrickson who meets a young adventure spirited girl named Ellie. They both dream of going to a Lost Land in South America. 70 years later, Carl remembers the promise he made to Ellie, who is now dead. Then, when he inadvertently hits a construction worker, he is forced to go to a retirement home.

  • Gautam Gambhir and Sehwag Lead Race for Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year 2008

    MUMBAI: Injuries may have forced them to take a temporary break from playing, but Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir continue to stand at the forefront of Indian cricket. The two lead the points tally for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year 2008, followed by their Captain - Mahendra Singh Dhoni and bowlers Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma.

    The Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year Award is decided on a two stage system. In the first stage, the points scored determines the top five contender?s shortlist. In the second stage, all Indian cricketers who have played at least one test match or five ODIs, are invited to vote for their choice of player for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year. This enables a qualitative element as well.

    With votes still coming in from Indian cricketers across the country, the race is too close to call and the ultimate winner will only be known at the Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence ceremony to be held in Mumbai on 17th September ?09.

    The Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence have honored the present, past and future of Indian cricket since their inception in 1997-98. Previous years‘ winners of the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year have been Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

    The Award ceremony will also include The Castrol Indian Junior Cricketer of the Year Award (Ravindra Jadeja) and The Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award (G R Vishwanath). Four new awards, instituted from 2008, will also be given away and these include The Castrol Indian Test Cricketer of the Year, The Castrol Indian ODI Cricketer of the Year, The Castrol Indian Bowler of the Year and The Castrol Indian Batsman of the Year. The Awards are for the calendar year 2008.
