  • Radio One Fm 94.3 will broadcast the interview of Sanjeev Srivastava at 12 noon on Sunday

Submitted by ITV Production on Jul 06

MUMBAI: When you have no interest in studies, you only have two options - politics and business, said Sunil Bharti Mittal in an exclusive interview with Sanjeev Srivastava (India Editor - BBC Hindi).

Mumbai‘s leading FM channel Radio One Fm 94.3 will broadcast the interview at 12 noon on Sunday, July 8th, simultaneously, in Mumbai and New Delhi.

In a free-wheeling interview, Sunil Mittal speaks about his childhood days in Ludhiana when he was more interested in playing and not studying which made his parents wonder what would he do when he grew up. Even during his college days, he would indulge more in shooting, gliding and flying than studies, which was a cause of concern for his parents.

"I learnt a lot from my parents, especially my father. He was in politics. I have seen him combining a lot. He was at ease among the slum dwellers as he was at a lecture at the UN. He could handle two opposites very well. Today, you make me sit in the streets or at a global economic forum. It will make no difference. There are very few Indians who have been co-chairman of a global economic forum. I have seen people drifting to one side. Thanks to my father, I am not like that," he said while stressing on the fact that how much ever one grows in stature, one should not forget one‘s roots.

In the interview, Sunil Mittal talks about the importance of studies but also stresses that one has to be focused on one‘s objectives, one need‘s to dream and be ready to work hard to realise the dreams. As is well known, Sunil Mittal started his career with a paltry Rs. 20,000/- making cycle parts for Hero Cycles in Ludhiana and has even driven trucks laden with vegetables from ports to the market.

The interview gives an interesting insight into Sunil Mittal the person and the professional and is sure to be an inspiration to listeners from all walks of life.

The channel will telecast LIVE and EXCLUSIVE the Grand Prix from Silverstone with its signature show Race Day (pre race) and Chequered Flag (post race) as part of its comprehensive F1 programming for Indian viewers.

For the first time McLaren‘s Lewis Hamilton will race a Formula One car in front of his fellow countrymen. Championship leader Hamilton has a 14-point cushion vis-?-vis his team-mate, Fernando Alonso. He came into the limelight last year when he won an enthralling GP2 Series race at Silverstone. Hamilton races into this weekend with a hope of joining a long list of Britons who have won the British Grand Prix: Sir Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, Peter Collins, Jim Clark, David Coulthard, Sir Jackie Stewart, James Hunt, Nigel Mansell, John Watson, Damon Hill and Johnny Herbert.

The pressure builds up on Hamilton after the demonstration of speed by Ferrari at Magny-Cours, which has given the world championship fight a fresh injection of adrenaline. Silverstone marks the midpoint of the world championship, with McLaren currently at 114 points and Ferrari at 89. Whatever the result maybe, Hamilton will leave Silverstone with at least a three point lead in the standings after his eighth straight podium finish in France.

  • CNN tracks the terror trail in Pakistan

Submitted by ITV Production on Jul 04

MUMBAI: 52 commuters were killed and London was in shock after the deadliest attack on British soil since World War II.Three of the four suicide bombers were British-born and of Pakistani origin.

In CNN?s Pakistan: The Threat Within, Nic Robertson tracks the footsteps of one of the bombers from the UK to Pakistan and uncovers how groups in Pakistan have become support centers for terrorists. Along with another of the bombers, 22-year old Shehzad Tanweer visited Pakistan months before the suicide attacks in July 2005.

After 9/11 Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf was quick to sign up as an ally in President Bush?s war on terror. Now Musharraf appears to be involved in a near impossible juggling act ? trying to combat terrorism while not appearing to Pakistanis to be a creature of the West.

Twelve months after the bombing Al-Qaeda released Tanweer?s suicide message. It included words from Ayman al Zawahiri, Al-Qaeda?s number two, and revealed that Tanweer not only attended a madrassa ? a religious school - but also an Al-Qaeda training camp where he was tutored in terror and sent back to Britain to complete his mission.

The evidence is that Al-Qaeda is alive and well and recruiting in Pakistani madrassas, which attract hundreds of thousands of children each year.

This worries former Pakistani police officer and current Harvard fellow Hassan Abbas who said that ?According to all accounts, about 10 to 15 per cent of madrassas in Pakistan are involved in militancy, support of the Taliban, terrorism and religious extremism.?

After the London bombings then British Prime Minister Tony Blair called on President Musharraf to crack down on the militant madrassas. But Pakistan?s former Interior Minister Aitazes Ahsan tells CNN it was ?an entirely half-hearted initiative, one step forward and a step back.?

One of Musharraf?s steps was to send troops to Mullah Abdul Rashid Ghazi?s madrassas in the Pakistani capital. Ghazi told CNN: ?It was just to please [America]?please Blair. He?s an agent of the United States?he is doing all kind of things against the Pakistanis just to please America. Although with the passage of time, I have realized that he is not sincere to even America.?

Ghazi is not the only one who believes that Musharraf is playing both sides in the war on terror with the apparent aim of staying in power. Ahsan also told CNN that ?When [Musharraf] goes to the United States he convinces the Americans there that if I do not remain the mullahs will take over. And he comes back to Pakistan and he convinces the mullahs that if I do not remain then the Americans will come and take over.?
