BBC Ek Mulaqat named 'Most Innovative Show'
MUMBAI : BBC Ek Mulaqat, the weekly chat show on Radio One FM 94.3 will launch its second series with an in-depth interview with young Indian Tennis icon, Sania Mirza, on Sunday [10 June]. The new series will feature a fresh line up of guests including telecom magnate Sunil Bharti Mittal, politicians Milind Deora, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Omar Abdullah, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
BBC Ek Mulaqat was named the ‘Most Innovative Show‘ at the Excellence in Radio Awards held during the recently concluded India Radio Forum 2007 in Mumbai. The show‘s host and BBC Hindi India Editor, Sanjeev Srivastava, said: "It is very gratifying to have won this award which recognises the BBC‘s contribution on the radio platform. It is a great credit to the BBC team‘s efforts in putting together the show. For me, it has been an interesting journey discovering the personal, lesser-known side to many well-known faces from politics, sport, entertainment, arts and business."
Radio One‘s Vice-President, Programming and Brand, Vishnu Athreya, added: "We are thrilled to have won this award, which is recognition for the creative programming that the Radio One and BBC partnership brings on-air. The first series of the programme featured an interesting mix of guests including L.K Advani, Sheila Dikshit, Irfan Pathan, Preity Zinta, Laloo Prasad Yadav, Sharad Pawar, Baba Ramdev, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Ghulam Ali, Kapil Dev, Amar Singh, Ram Jethmalani, Javed Akhtar, Vasundhara Raje and Mani Shankar Aiyar.
Every week, BBC Ek Mulaqat brings lively and informative interviews with some of India‘s most famous people, including politicians, artists, sports personalities and Bollywood stars, interspersed with the guest‘s all time favourite songs.
Audiences across Delhi and Mumbai can listen to Ek Mulaqat with Sania Mirza at 12.00 IST on Sunday, 10 June, on BBC‘s partner FM station Radio One FM 94.3, and also on BBC Hindi at 20.00 IST on the same day.
