Akshay Kumar co-produced Breakaway is to open the Toronto Film Festival.

Directed by Robert Liebermann, the Indo-Canadian film has been produced by First Take Entertainment and Kumar’s Hari Om Entertainment.

Breakaway is based on the Canada‘s favourite sport ice hockey and has been shortlisted due to its strong Canadian angle and Hollywood star power. It is the story about a young man of Indo-Canadian family who struggles between his family expectations and his dream to become a Hockey Star.

 
The film has Vinay Virmani playing the lead; it also has Russell Peters, Clayton Peters and Akshay Kumar.

The festival will go on from 8 to 18 September.
