Bangalore film fest returns after a year

MUMBAI: Skipping a year, the Bangalore International Film Festival will resume with backing from the Government of Karnataka. The event will be organised and conducted by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy founded by the government.

From this year, major cash awards have been instituted of the festival. The Competition Section itself will be in four categories:

In the International category for feature films, the best film will get a Golden Berunda and a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000. The best director will be awarded a Silver Berunda and a cash prize of Rs. 5,00,000. Films made between 1 January 2010 and 15 June 2011 will be eligible for this award.
 
In the Asian cinema category, the NETPAC Jury will give away a cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 for the best film made in the Asian continent between 1 January 2010 and 15 June.

In Chitrabharathi (Indian cinema category), the FIPRESCI Jury will give the best film award (Suchitra Sanman) comprising cash prize of Rs 2,00,000 to an Indian language film made between 1 September 2010 and 31 August.

Well-known filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli has been appointed as the festival director in the 4th edition of the festival.

The festival will take place from 15 to 22 December this year.
