MUMBAI: French filmmaker Alain Andre is making a film on serial killer Charles Sobhraj.

The director has a wish to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the pivotal role. "We were sure that we wanted Shah Rukh Khan because we think that he is the best person to portray Sobhraj,” said Andre to whom Sobhraj has given exclusive rights for his biopic.

“Just before Charles got free from Delhi’s Tihar jail, Chantal (his first wife) asked us (Andre and partner Francois) to make a film on him. Charles wanted to be famous, to see his stories in books and novels,,’’ Andre said.

The director said Sobhraj had demanded that he should not be portrayed as a killer in the film.

It may be remembered that Prawaal Raman, maker of Darna Mana Hai, had disclosed his intention of making a film on Sobhraj, featuring Sanjay Dutt and starring Emraan Hashmi in the lead role. But the film didn‘t make any progress.
