Lion King 3D release in India ahead of the US

MUMBAI: Walt Disney Studios India is gearing up to re-release The Lion King in 3D on 29 July,

The studio is releasing the film in India ahead of its US release on 16 September.

Said Walt Disney Studios India executive director marketing and distribution Seshasaye Kanthamraju, “There is a whole generation that missed out on The Lion King. Given the current excitement around 3D,
this was a perfect opportunity to present the film.

The film will be released in around 120 3D screens around the country along with Imax theatres.

After the re-release of Beauty And The Beast in 3D last year, the studio realised the potential of the technology of its animated
properties.

Averred Kanthamraju, “Beauty And The Beast was a huge hit and that encouraged us to look for other such films to bring back.”

Lion King, directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, was originally released 17 years ago on 17 June.
