Samsung organises Women's Intl Film Fest in Chennai

MUMBAI: Samsung India Electronics and InKo Centre, Chennai, in association with the Women‘s International Film Festival, Seoul, The National Film Development Corporation, India (NFDC) and The National Film Archive of India, (NFAI) have organised the 4th Samsung Women‘s International Film Festival (SWIFF) in Chennai between 15 to 23 July.

The organisers have made every effort to initiate and deepen discussions with film practitioners and viewers to enhance the understanding of what constitutes ‘a woman‘s film‘.

In its fourth year, the SWIFF will focus on a strong Korean and Indian section of feature films, short films and documentaries as well as a section on World Cinema in all the three categories.

The World Cinema section will showcase films from countries like Algeria, China, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuadar, Ghana, Holland, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Nicaragua, Rwanda, Venezuela, Uzbekistan, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia and South Africa among others.

In addition to the main screenings, the organisers of the festival have planned a series of satellite events around the city, all of which aim to examine what we mean by ‘a woman‘s perspective‘.

As many as 135 films from 51 countries will be screened over nine days at the Russian Centre of Science & Culture, Chennai.
