MUMBAI: Sony Pictures India is all set to release the animated film, The Smurfs, in India on 29 July.
Made in 3D, the film is a hybrid live-action and animated family comedy.
In the middle ages, the evil wizard Gargamel discovers the Smurfs‘ village and chases them into a wooded area. The Smurfs get scattered and Clumsy Smurf wanders into a forbidden cave where some of the other Smurfs follow.
Since it‘s also a blue moon, a magical portal within the cave transports them into present-day Central Park in New York. They take shelter with married couple Patrick and Grace Winslow and try to find a way back to their village before Gargamel finds them.
Directed by Raja Gosnell, the film stars Neil Patrick Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara and Hank Azaria as Gargamel. It has voices by Anton Yelchin, Jonathan Winters, Katy Perry, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen and George Lopez.
