MUMBAI:Switzerland recently paid a tribute to veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra by dedicating a train in his name.
Jungfrau Railways launched the train complete with his signature and name on a signboard, The train was launched by Chopra in the presence of Urs Graf, mayor of Interlaken and many Swiss dignitaries.
Not just that, a special Yash Chopra deluxe suite at Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa was also inaugurated.
Chopra, who shot his films like Faasle, Vijay, Chandni, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in the country, was with his wife Pamela in Switzerland to receive the honour.
Chopra, who is often credited for showcasing Switzerland in his films, feels his romance with the country is still going strong. “Generally people try to fleece filmmakers when they go to shoot a film abroad. But here, authorities are genuinely interested in helping you,” he has been quoted as saying.
The 78-year-old head honcho of Yash Raj Studios and Yash Raj Films was honoured with a silver plaque that would be placed on Hoheweg -
Interlaken‘s famous main street. Swiss dignitaries present on the occasion observed that Chopra has single-handedly influenced tourism to Interlaken as well as all of Switzerland worldwide through his films and has promoted the relationship between Switzerland and India in the most extraordinary way.
It may be remembered that Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol together shot Zara sa jhoom loon… from the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) in a Swiss train. Popular songs such as Tu mere saamne… from Darr with Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla and Zara sa jhoom loon… from DDLJ were also shot on Jungfrau Railways’ trains.
