Title row lands Mausam in trouble

MUMBAI: Title rows are common in the film world. The latest film to fall prey to the title row problem is the Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor starrer Mausam, directed by Pankaj Kapur.

A legal battle is brewing between the producers of the film and a small-time producer Nawman Malik who claims that he holds the title Mausam, having registered it with the IMPPA.

He has even moved the Bombay High Court asking for an injunction against producer Sheetal Talwar and director Pankaj Kapur for using what he claims is his registered title.

According to Malik, he had registered his title with the Association of Motion Pictures & TV Programme Producer of India (AMTP) and Indian Motion Pictures‘ Producers Association (IMPPA) early this year, while the other party didn‘t bother to register their title.

"They were trying to get the title from me on the pretext that I had only
registered my title and am not working on it. Big-time producers also
supported the other party.

The case is akin to the big fish swallowing the small fish," observes Malik. He has even gone ahead and censored his film. Confirming the same, Talwar said, "This gentleman has gone to Court claiming that the title Mausam is his.

He has even come up with a digital film called Mausam to endorse the legitimacy of his claims. But I want to know where was he when we titled our film Mausam. Even if I‘ve to burn my film down, I won‘t give this man a single paisa."
