MUMBAI: In a tribute to the late Mani Kaul, the 68th Venice International Film Festival will screen the restored version of his film Duvidha. The print of the film is currently being restored by the National Film Development Corporation India (NFDC).
Mani Kaul, Indian experimental filmmaker who passed away on 6 July 2011, won a National Award for Best Director for Duvidha.
Besides, two Indian films will premiere at the Festival. They are Amit Dutta‘s Sonchidi (The Golden Bird) and Gurvinder Singh‘s Anhey Ghorhey da Daan (Alms of the Blind Horse), in Orizzonti section.
While Singh‘s film is ‘the power of the framed image and the subversion of film editing‘ Dutta‘s ‘reinvents the relationship between cinema and the literary narration beyond the conventional form‘, says a press release.
These films will be screened in ‘Orizzonti‘ section that presents features of renowned masters as well as new discoveries.
The festival will take place from 31 August to 10 September.
