MUMBAI: In a special award ceremony, NDTV Profit announced its first Mutual fund awards to set benchmarks and distinguish the best mutual fund schemes in various categories and the best mutual fund houses. The award night was attended by exceptional fund managers who have displayed investing acumen to and foresight to make their funds not just short term performers but long race winning investment products.

The awards recognized Mutual Funds which have created wealth for their investors, outperforming their respective benchmark markets/indices, not just in growth period but also in the down phases.

Manisha Natarajan, Editor and Senior anchor, NDTV Profit hosting the ceremony said, "The purpose of Mutual Fund Awards is essentially for retail investor to recognize excellence and for us to give due credit to all the fund managers who have been able to beat their respective benchmarks in returns and create long term wealth."
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Chawla, Finance Secretary said, "Overall quantum of saving which goes in financial assets and then in capital market the equity is still not very high and I suspect the root cause for this that there is element of anxiety and nervousness about the market. And I think we all need to push for much more financial literacy and education about the market"

N Damodaran, Chairperson of the Jury and former Chairperson of SEBI said, "It is important to recognize good work in bringing small investor to the market. It was a challenge and opportunity to being one of you to be part of process of identifying great work. There is lot of more work needs to be done like the kinds of the products it offers, simplification of the process, the manner in which distribution happens for small investors and how you can provide value on sustainable basis."

The winners were identified through a robust, credible process and chosen finally by a jury of eminent leaders. Value Research, the knowledge partners used a risk adjusted Return Score on how a fund has performed historically, relative to the other funds in its category, for the risks it has taken. The jury comprised of eminent personalities like M Damodaran; who has served as chairman of SEBI and UTI AMC, Dhirendra Swarup; who was Chairman NPS, Prithvi Haldea; Founder - Chairman and Managing Director of Prime database, Monika Halan; Editor, Mint Money, Dorab Sopariwala; Editorial advisor to NDTV Profit and consultant with DraftFCB Ulka and R & P Edelman, Manisha Natarajan, Editor and Senior Anchor, NDTV.
