A1 GP Live from Portugal on ESPN STAR Sports

New Delhi, October 21, 2005: ESPN STAR Sports, Asia’s premier sports broadcaster, will telecast both A1 Grand Prix live & exclusive this weekend for the motor sports fans of the country. The world cup of Motorsport will feature its third race of the season at the Circuito Estoril in Portugal.

The Grand Prix of Nations has thrown two different winners in the previous races. With Brazil still leading the charge with 30 points, France and New Zealand are following suit with 29 points each. With 17 teams already in points the season is building up with competition. With no clear winner or run away leader A1 surely has dished out its promise of being the world cup of motor sports.

The team India driver, Armaan Ebrahim, the world record holder for the youngest winner in Formula BMW Asia at 16 years, will become the youngest driver among the 24 drivers to take grid in Portugal. The young lad from Chennai will be driving the 550 bhp car as team India nominates him after Karun Chandok took the hot seat for the initial two races of the season.

Located on the northern coast of the estuary of the River Tagus, the picturesque circuit is in the hills behind the once-glamorous resort town of Estoril - which has grand hotels reminiscent of the French Riviera and a huge casino - and the small fishing port of Cascais. An ever-present on the F1 calendar between 1984 and 1996, Estoril was removed from the 1997 schedule after the FIA were unhappy with the status of redevelopment work on the circuit. The track is hard on the tyres and with long sweeping turns the circuit can be tiring for the drivers. In February 2000 the revised circuit was finally re-granted a testing license for Formula 1 cars.
