Doordarshan re-elected to Asia-Pacific broadcast panel

NEW DELHI: Doordarshan has been re-elected as a member of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's (ABU) administrative council for another three-year term.
In the election held at the 40th general assembly of the ABU in Istambul, Turkey, Doordarshan polled more than 80 per cent votes to remain on the 14-member administrative council, which functions as the executive of the premier broadcasting union in the world.
With Doordarshan's re-election, Prasar Bharati CEO KS Sarma will continue as the vice-president of the ABU for three more years. Sarma was elected to the post in the 39th General Assembly in Tokyo last November.
The Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union is made up of about 100 broadcasters from 49 nations and territories of the Asia-Pacific region. It provides a platform for co-operation in the field of news and programme exchange, acquisition of broadcast rights, training and technical consultancy. Doordarshan and All India Radio are among the most active members of the ABU.
In the 40th general assembly, Prasar Bharati is being represented by Sarma and Doordarshan's engineer-in-chief RK Gupta.
