Tom Mcveigh is ESS senior VP, operations and technology

MUMBAI: ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has promoted ,Tom McVeigh, to the position of senior VP, operations and technology. McVeigh was previously the network's VP, operations and engineering.

Continuing to be based in Singapore ,he takes on region-wide responsibility for all operations and technology matters related to the 13 ESPN and Star Sports channels across Asia and will continue to report directly to Jamie Davis, Managing Director of the network.

McVeigh joined ESS in November 1998 as, director of operations, before being promoted to Vice President of Operations and Engineering in December 2000. In his new role, as Senior Vice President, he will assume an additional role, which includes the technical and operational development of several strategic new business initiatives.

ESS Asia MD, Jamie Davis,said, "The breadth and depth of Tom's knowledge and experience reaches across our entire organisation. Over the past seven years that he has been with ESPN Star Sports, Tom ,spearheaded the modernisation and upgrade of our transmission facilities to enable the growth of our services to the current 13 that are distributed across Asia today.

"Tom will be instrumental in developing the infrastructure for us to enter a new phase of expansion as we deploy various new media initiatives, which include wireless and broadband applications, to sports fans across Asia."

Mcveigh's broadcasting career spanning two decades began with Television New Zealand (TVNZ), where he worked for several years in transmission, microwave system maintenance, studio installation, vision/pulse maintenance as well as MCR operations. He, then assumed the position of technical director before being promoted to supervisor of the combined group of technical producers and technical directors. Not long after, he was appointed head of operations TVNZ and later became GM operations for the company.

He leads the largest staff base within the ESS network and heads a management team that is responsible for engineering, transmission, studio operations, satellite operations, editing, commercial traffic, facilities as well as media content operations.
