MUMBAI: Sony Entertainment's events and movies channel Max has decided to take to a road already traversed with some success by arch rival Star Gold.
Max is launching Promise Hollywood Hungama "presenting for the first time", Hollywood blockbuster movies dubbed in Hindi every Sunday in the prime time 9 pm slot.
Hollywood Hungama premieres with the telecast of the action thriller Anaconda on 27 June, followed by movies like The Mask of Zorro, Jumanji, Bats and Hook and many more, says a press release.
Max executive vice president and business head, Rajat Jain was quoted in the release as saying, "Hollywood flicks have a huge fan following in India and there is a significant market for these films when made relevant to Indian audiences."
"Like Max's other initiatives - Ek Hi Break and Extraa Shots - Max now gears up to provide its audiences wholesome entertainment, straight out of Hollywood into their homes and in their own language!" adds Jain.
Star Gold had previously experimented and benefitted by airing Hollywood films dubbed in Hindi. This helped the channel in gaining higher viewership.
English channels like AXN and HBO have also featured English movies dubbed in Hindi in an effort to pack in a wider audience. HBO has dubbed The Mummy, Mummy Returns and Scorpion King amongst others, into Hindi.
