MUMBAI: Netflix has started testing a new feature on its mobile app, called ‘Extras’. The feed which is being tested with a subset of Netflix’s audience, will show a gallery of Netflix Originals – TV shows and movies.

“We are testing a feed of video extras in our mobile app to help fans connect more deeply with the titles they love and discover new ones to watch,” a Netflix spokesperson commented as quoted by Variety. “These tests typically vary in length of time and by region, and may not become permanent,” he added.

According to a few reports, the ‘Extras’ tab will replace the ‘Coming Soon’ section located at the centre of the bottom bar. But conflicting reports suggest it is not replacing any of the app’s other elements.

In an instagram-like fashion, new feature will let users scroll down and check out each TV show or movie. Like stories on Instagram, users can tap to move to the next trailer.The section will also offer a preview including trailers and a brief description of the plot of Netflix Originals TV shows or movies.

Notably, it will also give users the ability to share recommendations directly from the feed to third-party apps like Instagram Stories, WhatsApp, and Snapchat.
