NEW DELHI: In a strange turn of events, e-commerce giant Myntra has decided to change its logo following a complaint filed by a Mumbai-based woman activist who alleged that the logo is insulting and offensive to women.
The activist, Naaz Patel, works with Avesta Foundation NGO and had filed the complaint at Mumbai police's cyber crime department in December 2020. In her complaint, Patel had demanded that the logo should be removed and an appropriate action be taken against the company if it does not bring in the necessary changes. She had earlier flagged the concerns on various social media platforms as well.
DCP Rashmi Karandikar of the cyber crime branch said that the police too found the logo offensive to women and had mailed the concerns to Myntra. The officials from the Flipkart-backed company met the department and assured that they will soon change the logo.
Media reports have stated that Myntra has already issued printing orders for packaging material with the new logo. The changes in its websites and products will soon start reflecting. However, the company has not released any official statement on the matter yet or formally unveiled its new logo.
Meanwhile, the matter created quite a fuss on social media on Saturday, with #MyntraLogo climbing into the top trends. While some section of netizens agreed with the complainant’s view and called out Myntra for disrespecting women, others took it in a lighter vein and lost no time in making memes that poked fun at the controversy.
