AIADMK manifesto promises nationalisation of MSO biz in Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI: With the election fever on in Tamil Nadu, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has decided to challenge the near monopoly of the cable TV business of media baron Kalanithi Maran, who is brother of Union minister Dayananidhi Maran and grandnephew of DMK chief Karunanidhi.

In its party manifesto, AIADMK chief J. Jayalalithaa has promised nationalisation of multi-system operators (MSOs) in the state.

Maran-promoted SCV presently commands a virtual stranglehold over the cable TV business.

Jayalalithaa, who hopes to win the state elections, has also promised cable connections at subsidised rates besides laptops for students from classes XI in families below the poverty line.
