JPC probing 2G scam wants public responses

NEW DELHI: Set to probe the 2G scam, the Joint Parliamentary Committee has invited views and suggestions from the public in general and from experts, professionals, organisation, associations and stakeholders interested in the subject matter.

Those filing any views or suggestions have to send them in duplicate in English or Hindi and their submissions will be treated as strictly confidential.

The JPC had been constituted under the Chairmanship of P C Chacko to examine matters relating to allocation and pricing of telecom Licences and Spectrum with the terms of references: (i) To examine policy prescriptions and their interpretation by successive Governments, including decisions of the Union Cabinet and the consequences thereof, in the allocation and pricing of telecom licences and spectrum from 1988 to 2009; (ii) To examine irregularities and aberrations, if any, and the consequences thereof in the implementation of Government decisions and policy prescriptions from 1998 to 2009; and (iii) To make recommendations to ensure formulation of appropriate procedures for implementation of laid down policy in the allocation and pricing of telecom licences.

The views of have been sought because of the immense importance of the subject and debate generated in various fora.

The Memoranda which might be submitted to the Committee would form part of its records and would be treated as strictly confidential and the contents thereof not divulged to anyone, as such as an act would constitute a ‘breach of privilege’ of the Committee.

Those who wish to appear before the Committee, besides submitting Memoranda, are requested to specifically indicate so. However, the Committee’s decision in this regard shall be final.
