Tariq Anwar among others invited to join Academy

MUMBAI: Film editor Tariq Anwar, who had received an Oscar nomination this year for the Oscar award winner Kings Speech, has been invited to join the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences along with other notable names.

Sixty-five-year-old Anwar is known for his works in films like American Beauty, The Good Shepherd and Revolutionary Road. Earlier in 1999, he won an Academy Award for film editing for American Beauty.

Notable among others who have also been invited by the Academy are Gerard Butler, Vincent Cassel, Harry Potter star Robbie Coltrane, Brand‘s Arthur co-star Jennifer Garner, Dominic Monaghan, Rooney Mara, Mila Kunis, newcomer Jennifer Lawrence, Nastassja Kinski, directors Susanne Bier, Neil Burger, Lisa Cholodenko and Tom Hooper.

The Academy has also invited 175 actors, moviemakers, executives and artistes who will become associate members and will not be among those voting.

"These individuals are among the best filmmakers working in the industry today," said Academy President Tom Sherak. "Their talent and creativity have entertained moviegoers around the world, and I welcome each of them to our ranks."
