Entries invited for 2012 New York Indian film fest

NEW DELHI: Entries have been invited for the Twelfth Indian New York Film Festival to be held from 23 to 27 May next year.

The Festival is North America‘s oldest and most prestigious destination for feature films, documentaries, and shorts from and about the Indian subcontinent. NYIFF is an opportunity to experience the rich and diverse film cultures of the Indian subcontinent through a mix of film screenings, discussions, industry panels, nightly parties, an awards ceremony, and gala red carpet events.

Organised by the Indo-American Arts Council, it works with colleagues around the United States to broaden collective audiences and to create a network for shared information, resources and funding. The focus is to help artists and art organisations in North America as well as to facilitate artists from India to exhibit, perform and produce their work here.

The New York Indian Film Festival celebrates alternative, independent cinema from the global South Asian community. The festival is dedicated to providing filmmakers, actors, and industry professionals a platform to showcase their work, as well as creating an environment where filmmakers may exchange ideas with one another, and interact with discerning and diverse audiences, journalists, and film buffs.

The selection over the last 11 years has featured a wide array of films that included the work of veteran as well as emerging South Asian Filmmakers. The Festival has presented films with a variety of Lengths and Formats - Shorts, Documentary, Feature, Animation and Cellphone Cam.

The festival places entries in four categories: features which are over or under 40 minutes in separate categories and documentaries which are over or under 40 minutes in separate categories.
