MUMBAI: The tussle between multiplex owners and Fox Star Studios India over box-office revenue sharing has led to the studio releasing their latest distribution venture, The Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in as many as 450 single screens.

The Hollywood movie will not be shown on the multiplexes as they are asking for a revision in the revenue share arrangement.

Fox Star claims that its single-screen release number nearly doubles that of recent Hollywood flicks like Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2 and X-Men: First Class.

Fox Star Studios locked horns with multiplex owners asking for a better deal. Fox was asking for 55 per cent profit-sharing revenue in the first week since it was a day and date release (the film releases globally today) and subsequent reduced ratios in the second and third weeks, while the multiplex owners asked for just the opposite.
 
Fox Star Studios must have been emboldened by the fact that last month turned out to be the best month for Hollywood studios which saw successful box office releases like Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Sources said even after a string of meetings during the week between the two parties, nothing positive could come out of it.

While officials at Fox didn‘t respond to telephonic calls, multiplex owners didn‘t want to comment on the whole affair.

The film releases today.
