Reliance Mediaworks' Lowry Process nominated for Oscar Tech award

MUMBAI: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has nominated Reliance Mediaworks‘ Image processing technology, The Lowry Process, for the Scientific and Technical Awards 2012.

The award is one among the nine scientific and technical achievements that have been selected for further consideration.

Lowry Digital, a digital film restoration company in California, is part of the Reliance ADA Group.

The process can restore from film or tape and process any format from standard definition to 4K. In the process, image sequences are sent through a battery of personal computers that allows the evaluation and characterisation of each individual frame.

Other than that the technology deals with noise, it finds and enhances fine detail and eliminates artifacts of every kind.

It may be recalled that Lowry process was used to enhance images of James Cameron‘s Oscar award winning 3D film Avatar.
