MUMBAI: In 1999, filmmaker Jeremy Gilley had a simple but powerful idea - could the world be persuaded to lay down its weapons for a day? Two years later, he persuaded the member states of the United Nations to declare an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on September 21st ? known as Peace Day. Peace One Day Part 3 on BBC World News, premiering on 18 September, follows Jeremy‘s continuing journey to make this day known around the globe.

As the years passed since the inaugural Peace Day in 1999, there has still not been a single cease fire. Faced with accusations that the day was meaningless, Jeremy decided to answer his critics by taking his initiative to the one place on earth that everyone said it would never work ? Afghanistan.

In 2007, with Peace One Day Ambassador Jude Law and Jeremy visited Afghanistan and spearheaded a process that has resulted in an agreement by all parties in the region, including the Taliban, to honour the day for three consecutive years . This allowed aid workers to move safely and immunise over 4 million children against polio. This was a huge achievement but still not a global ceasefire.

So what is next? Peace One Day Part 3 premieres on BBC World News on 18 and 19 September, and follows the story of Jeremy Gilley?s continuing journey to make Peace Day known around the world. The next goal he has set himself is to persuade all world leaders to sign up to a declaration ?not to fire unless fired upon? for the duration of Peace Day in 2012. But what will it take to make this happen and who are the players that will sign up to this commitment?

Peace One Day Part 3 follows Jeremy?s strategy and his gathering of supporters, in the build up to 2012.

The documentary is written and directed by Jeremy Gilley and produced by Jude Law. It is the third film in Jeremy?s ten year journey to achieve a global ceasefire.

Jeremy Gilley says: ?I want to see Peace Day institutionalised around the world, to become a day that?s self-sustaining; my documentaries are an integral part of that process. I?m thrilled and honoured that this film will play on BBC World News to audiences around the world.?

Jude Law said, ?I?m delighted to be part of a process that uses film in such a constructive way. The fact that BBC World News is showing this latest film is wonderful.?
