Dish TV crosses 10 million subs ahead of target

NEW DELHI: Subhash Chandra-owned leading direct-to-home (DTH) company Dish TV today said that it has crossed 10 million subscribers, a crucial mark in the wake of the highly competitive DTH sector in India.

The company has added over one million subscribers in less than three months. It had reached the nine million subscriber mark in November last year.

Dish TV India MD Jawahar Goel said, “Dish TV has been setting benchmarks in the industry since we started out in 2003. Our growth is testament to the awakening of new India looking for superior digital content, an unparalleled viewing experience and world class service. Achieving landmark figures of 10 million restate our subscriber trust in our brand and this has only encouraged us further to work on innovations and serve our customers with something unique always.”

Earlier, the company had revised its original forecast of acquiring 2.5 million customers in fiscal 2010-11 after acquiring eight million subs. It had scaled up its growth forecast for the fiscal to 3 million subscribers.

Dish TV today added that it has achieved nearly 75 per cent growth in subscriber additions this year and is expected to close FY’11 with over 3.5 million additions.

Dish TV CEO RC Venkateish said, “Dish TV has grown multi-fold as a brand over the last few years. We had reached the five million subscribers mark in the beginning of 2009 and within two years we have doubled our base in the country. We are proud to achieve our target for the current fiscal of reaching 10 million subscribers. Being the first DTH company in Asia to break the 10 million barrier, we now look forward to exit the current fiscal with a stronger subscriber addition and achieve our guided acquisition target while aiming profitability in the months to come."
