Facebook valuation surpasses Yahoo

MUMBAI: The social networking site Facebook has overtaken Yahoo and EBay in terms of enterprise value, says a recent study from securities firm Nyppex.

The study valued Mark Zuckerberg‘s Facebook at $41.2 billion, way ahead of other fast growing startups like LinkedIn, Twitter, Zynga, and Groupon. And it is one of the fastest-growing companies in terms of net worth, the survey revealed.

However, the social networking site legs behind internet giant Google (estimated at $149 billion) and ecommerce platform Amazon ($73.5 billion).

Also, Nyppex valued established companies eBay and Yahoo at $32.8 billion and $18.4 billion respectively.

As per the study, Chicago-based Groupon grew by 303 per cent to $3.6 billion, from 30 June to 1 December. While, San Francisco-based Twitter grew by 131 per cent to $2.1 billion. Despite these growth levels the two sites are way behind Facebook.

"We try to be students of venture history, and we think this is a milestone event that‘s taken place in the last six months," says Nyppex managing member Laurence Allen.

According to Allen, the research is produced for money managers, venture funds and corporations that want a piece of Web startups.
