GSAT-5P new launch date is 25 December

BANGALORE: The Indian Space Research Organisation’s (Isro) revised date for the launch of its GSAT-5P satellite is 25 December.

The 2310 kg INSAT-5P will be launched form the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh at 4.04 pm.

The launch countdown begins at 11.04 am tomorrow (Friday, 24 December).

The earlier launch on 20 December had to be aborted because of a cryogenic valve leakage in the engine of the satellite launch vehicle GSLV-F06.

“GSAT-5P is meant to augment the communication services of the Insat satellite syatem,” said Isro Director S Satish while speaking with www.indiantelevision.com.

GSAT-5P is configured as an exclusive C-band communication satellite, GSAT-5P/INSAT-4D and will carry 12 normal C-band transponders and 6 extended C-band transponders with wider coverage in uplink and downlink over Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe as well as zonal coverage with a minimum of 35 dBW EIRP.

The spacecraft has a mission life of 12 years.
