Murdoch’s iPad-only newspaper to launch on 2 February

MUMBAI: News Corp. chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch has sent out invitations for the launch on 2 February of the Daily, his highly anticipated iPad-only newspaper.

The emailed invitations also said that Murdoch and Apple‘s vice president of Internet services Eddy Cue will officially unveil the Daily at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Murdoch and Apple chief executive Steve Jobs were originally scheduled to launch the Daily in San Francisco in January 19.

According to Reuters, who quoted sources familiar with the event, the Daily was originally scheduled to launch on 19 January, but the event was postponed due to some technical glitches.

Some days later, the tech giant disclosed that Jobs was taking an undetermined amount of time off from his duties for the third time since 2004.

The magazine will cost 99c per week, Murdoch said in the mail.

Initially available only in the United States, the digital-only publication exhibits the media giants latest attempt to attract customers to pay for its online news and support investments in journalism.

Newspaper, magazine and book publishers are expecting that tablet devices such as the iPad and Samsung Electronic‘s Galaxy Tab will boost consumer interest and revive the business plagued by declining circulation and advertising revenue.
