Romtelcom set to buy Boom TV

MUMBAI: Romania‘s DTH market is set to enter a period of consolidation with Romtelecom, the largest telecommunication company in Romania, set to buy Boom TV, a platform operated by the Israeli-owned DTH Television Group, for around €8 million plus VAT.

The telecommunication company, which is itself backed by Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE) and Deutsche Telekom, is in negotiations with the Transylvania Insolvency House (CIT).

The latter acts as a receiver for the DTH Television Group which has built up debt of over €100 million.

Boom TV suffered from underinvestment that resulted in a catastrophic loss of subscribers, down by 130,000 in the last two years to the current count of 95,000 subscribers.

Two years ago, Romtelecom was in talks to buy Boom TV, but after having offered €50 million for the platform it decided to withdraw its offer.
