Resounding finish to Times Music's 'War of the DJs' in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Times Group's lifestyle channel Zoom in association with Times Music hosted the finale of the music event - The DSP Black War of the DJ's 2005 in Mumbai a few days ago.

Regional rounds were held in five centres earlier and the finalists churned out music to keep toe tapping Mumbaikars on their feet. DJ Piyush from Hyderabad came out on top and he was presented the award by Bollywood star Anil Kapoor.

DJ Akhbar Sami, DJ Akthar and Rajeeta Hemwani were the judges for the final leg of the competition. The Zoom Viewer's choice DJ award was presented to DJ Anshul from Kolkata and the Planet sports - Most Sporty DJ award was given to DJ Vinayak from Delhi.

Spotted at the event were Page 3 circuit and Bollywood personalities like Kunika Lal, Sahil Khan, VJ Shonali Nagrani, VJ Parizaad Kolah, There was also a jugalbandhi between DJ Suketu, DJ Akbar Sami and DJ Akhtar. Pop group Aasma launched their latest album. Dancer Soni Singh set the stage on fire with her outstanding performance. Choreographer Rohit Verma unveiled the "Pepe Fall Winter Collection" with models flaunting the creations on the ramp.

The contestants competed using Vinyl's or CDs or a mixture both. Vinyl allows the DJ to touch the record being played thereby permitting him to feel the music and add soul to it. CD mixing, more popular in the country, produces the effect by usage of state of the art technology and techniques like on line sampling, pitch control and alterations of BPM (beats per minute). The contestants were judged on the quality of mixes, tracks selected showmanship and crowd reaction, their use of props and technical efficiency.
