Bangladesh govt to bring bill to control electronic media

Bangladesh govt

MUMBAI: As part of its efforts to streamline the applications for private satellite TV and radio channels, the Bangladesh government is preparing uniform media guidelines.

This means more private TV and radio channels are unlikely to get permission to go on air until a bill on this regard is passed in parliament. The bill christened as the Private Broadcast Media (Radio & Television) Bill 2004 is aimed at controlling the electronic media.

Reportedly, the Bangladesh broadcast ministry has so far received around 30 applications for private satellite television channels and 15 for radio channels.

So far the government has granted permission to seven TV channels which include Channel i, ATN Bangla and international television (ntv).
