CNN.com 9/11 special gets online journalism award

CNN

US: The Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and the Online News Association (ONA) have acknowledged CNN.com coverage of 11 September. The broadcaster provided timely, accurate and complete information to a public that turned to online media for news as events of that day unfolded. By quickly providing a series of informational features in a variety of formats, CNN's site offered clear and concise reporting about what had happened and how it was being dealt with.

The coverage, which can still be accessed at http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2001/trade.center/ used constantly updated information from CNN reporters and producers around the world, photo galleries, maps, victim lists, emergency contact information, e-mail alerts, news for stranded travelers and continuous updates on the sites of the attacks. Honouring excellence in internet journalism, The Online Journalism Awards received 728 entries from 10 countries this year.

The Online Journalism awards are among several other major journalism awards administered by Columbia, including the Pulitzers, the National Magazine awards, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia awards for broadcast journalism and the Maria Moors Cabot Prizes.
