MUMBAI: The Yanks may turn up their noses in disdain at the corruption that marks life in India, but the way America is going, corporate scandals, and monster ones at that, are fast becoming a regular staple.

The latest to join the ever growing family of dodgy corporate bigwigs is the queen of homemaking chic Martha Stewart. The 'Omnimedia' empire chief faces a prison sentence of as high as 20 years after a court jury found her guilty on all counts of conspiracy, obstruction of justice and two counts of making false statements to the government.

The sentencing date is set for 17 June but Stewart is expected to appeal the federal jury verdict.

The false statement charge relates to a superbly timed sale of stocks worth $228,000 of bio-tech company ImClone. The sale, made just a day before the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) rejected ImClone's application for approval of a cancer drug, saved Syewart a "monumental" $51,000. Think of it, all these shenanigans for a lousy $ 51,000 coming from a multi-millionaire many times over. 

The irony in all this is that Stewart epitomizes meticulous homemaking and gracious living.
