MUMBAI: 26th July is a very significant date for Indians and is engraved in golden letters as Kargil Vijay Diwas in the annals of Indian history. This year will be the 18th anniversary of the Kargil War. News18 India visits Kargil, where every year the Indian Army celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas.
To commemorate the Indian victory, the channel travelled to the Kargil War Memorial, also known as the Vijaypath, a war memorial built by the Indian Army at Dras on the foothills of the Tololing Hill. While travelling to the Memorial, News18 India’s team saw two Pakistani bunkers kept at the memorial. The Indian army had taken control of these bunkers from the Pakistani trespassers at Batra Top and Tiger Hill. The channel also interacted with ex-army men, locals and tourists who were present at the memorial. Ex-Indian Army Man from Dras, Ghulam Mohammad explained to News18 India how the Pakistani trespassers ruined the entire Kargil and Dras areas and reiterated how the citizens here have always supported the Indian Army.
