BENGALURU: The South Indian television and radio broadcaster behemoth, the Sun TV Network Limited (Sun TV), reported consolidated total comprehensive income of Rs 1,432.87 crore (37.9 percent of consolidated operating revenue for the year ended 31 March 2019 (FY 2019, year or period or fiscal under review), which was 26.2 percent higher than Rs 1,134.65 crore (38.3 percent of consolidated operating revenue) for the previous year FY 2018.
Sun TV reported 27.7 percent increase in consolidated operating revenue for FY 2019 at Rs 3,782.54 crore as compared to Rs 2,963.02 crore in FY 2018. Consolidated total Income for the period under review at Rs 4,009.65 crore was 29.1 percent more as compared to Rs 3,105.39 crore in FY 2018.
Consolidated operating profit (EBITDA) for FY 2019 at Rs 2,606.68 crore (68.9 percent of consolidated operating revenue) increased 30.1 percent as compared to Rs 2,003.76 crore (67.6 percent of consolidated operating revenue) in FY 2018. Consolidated profit after tax (PAT) for FY 2019 at Rs 1,433.68 crore (37.9 percent of consolidated operating revenue) was 26.6 percent higher than Rs 1,132.52 crore (38.2 percent of operating revenue) in the previous fiscal.
Sun TV reported 30.4 percent y-o-y increase in total expenditure in FY 2019 at Rs 1,840.32 crore from Rs 1,410.33 crore in FY 2018. Operating expenses in FY 2019 increased 46.5 percent to Rs 448.32 crore from Rs 305.95 crore in the previous year. Employee benefits expense in FY 2019 increased 4.9 percent to Rs 329.86 crore from Rs 314.54 crore in FY 2018.
Finance costs increased 52.8 percent in FY 2019 to Rs 1.65 crore from Rs 1.08 crore in the previous year. Other expenses increased 23.5 percent during the year under review to Rs 312.69 crore from Rs 253.29 crore in FY 2018.
Sun TV says in a press release that its standalone subscription revenue has grown by approximately 16 percent in FY 2019 to Rs 1,320.43 crore, while standalone advertisement revenue increased by approximately 9 percent to Rs 1,426.67 crore during the same period.
IPL Franchise SunRisers Hyderabad numbers
The above operating revenue and expenses includes income from and costs incurred by Sun Tv’s IPL Franchise SunRisers Hyderabad. IPL Franchise Income in FY 2019 more than tripled to Rs 443.91 crore from Rs 146.81 crore in FY 2018. IPL Franchise costs in FY 2019 increased 34.5 percent to Rs 227.17 crore (including IPL Franchise Fees of Rs 84.99 crore) as compared to Rs 166.68 crore (including IPL Franchise Fees of Rs 85.48 crore) in FY 2018.
The board of directors of Sun TV had declared a 50 percent dividend (dividend of Rs 2.50) per equity share of face value Rs 5 each for the quarter ended 31 December 2018 (Q3 2019, pervious quarter). This was the third interim dividend disbursed by the company during the fiscal under review.
