MUMBAI: Ten Sports will air the 87th PGA Championship from 11 -14 August 2005 at the Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey.
The local interest will revolve around Arjun Atwal, who hails from Kolkata. He became the first Indian to qualify for the PGA Championship, the fourth and final major of 2005 golf season, because of his brilliant form on the PGA Tour in the one year since the last PGA Championship.
In 2005, Atwal, despite playing on a limited exempt status, has made more than $-802,000 and is ranked 66th on the PGA Tour after getting just 12 starts.
Other golfers in action will include world No 1 Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson and Retief Goosen. Atwal will virtually inaugurate the tournament, having been drawn to go first out in Thursday’s opening round with Americans Craig Thomas and Jonathan Kaye.
