US team visits I&B Ministry for a know all on CAS

NEW DELHI: A team from the United States' regulatory body, Federal Communications Commission (FCC), held discussions at the information and broadcasting ministry on 24 July, mostly surrounding around India's favourite subject at the moment, conditional access system (CAS).
The details were not available as the FCC team refused to talk to the waiting media outside I&B ministry saying "a statement would be issued on 25 July". However, the Indian government officials indicated that the Americans were curious to know about CAS.
According to information available, the FCC team, led by R. Porter, deputy in the international bureau of the FCC, wanted to learn whether the government resorts to arm-twisting of players at times or not, as also the genesis of CAS and the amendments effected in the Cable TV (Networks) Regulation Act.
The FCC team, which left for Chennai yesterday, had also held discussions on telecom with industry bodies and players.
