National broadcaster Doordarshan will show a 26-episode documentary about Indian paintings this month.

The documentary titled The paintings of India has found a place in the Limca Book of Records for the most extensive schedule ever done on such a topic, says a report in the Hindu Business Line.

Art historian Benoy K Behl, researcher and assistant director Lalika Gupta, cameramen Pawan Giri and Gopal Prajapati traveled extensively to make the project a reality. The aim, says the report, is to correct misconceptions about Indian painting. These include myths that Indians learned to paint during the Mughal and British times. The crew shot 10th century Chola paintings inside the Brahadeeswar Temple at Tanjore. This has apparently made Western experts rethink their views about the development of art in India.
