  • Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah, the special show on SAB TV

Submitted by ITV Production on Nov 20, 2009

MUMBAI: Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashmah, the show on SAB TV, has been portraying the beauty and richness of Indian society and the strength of its togetherness very beautifully on screen.

But recently there was a moment of contrast on the sets of the show which has become India‘s most loved family comedy show ever.

Replacing the usual bursts of laughter was deep silence and candles of condolence. It was a moment of solidarity with the nation as the entire cast came together to pay homage to those who had lost their lives in the terrorist attack of 26/11.

We talked to Dilip Joshi who plays Jetha lal and he said - "It has been a year since the terror attacks struck Mumbai but the wounds of those who lost their dear ones are still fresh. Though we have been bringing smiles to the audience through our show, we are taking a moment on this day to be a part of the loss of the families of the victims"

Disha, who plays Daya, said "We are one with the nation in expressing our grief. But looking through the Ooltah Chashmah (which is the spirit of viewing problems with a positive and different perspective), we must find courage in our pain and try to make this world a better to place to be in, in our own small ways."

  • Kurbaan, Twilight and A Christmas Carol?all in the same week! Which movie is worth a watch?

Submitted by ITV Production on Nov 19, 2009

MUMBAI: Ace movie critic Omar Qureshi gives his take on the movie line up this week. This week movie releases have been reasonably hyped, with Saif ? Kareena coming together in the steaming scenes of Kurbaan, to the much awaited and delayed release of Twilight in India to the exciting 7 roles played by everyone?s favourite Jim Carrey in A Christmas Carol. Amidst the confusion of which movie is worth a watch on the weekend Omar helps you decide.

Starting with the sensational and slick Kurbaan, distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, the thriller is the directorial debut of Rensil D‘Silva and stars Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Viviek Oberoi in lead roles. Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Dia Mirza also feature in it. ‘‘Kurbaan‘ has a deep-rooted love story to it, but it is not a frothy romantic film that we are time and again exposed to. The love story is much deeper here. There is a definite meaning, purpose and reason to it. Shot in Philadelphia and Brooklyn, it is about Avantika Ahuja (Kareena) who lives in the US and returns to Delhi after her father has a cardiac arrest. While in Delhi, she meets Ehsaan Khan (Saif), a professor whom she marries and returns to the US with. But soon Avantika realises that she is a pawn in Ehsaan‘s game as he turns out to be a terrorist who marries her in order to cover his identity. Avantika is kept under house arrest where she also finds out that Ehsaan plans to hijack a flight. One of the passengers on that flight is Riyaaz (Vivek), a journalist.

She is determined to unravel his secret, but the truth is more terrifying than she realized. Edward is a vampire and soon Edward and Bella fall passionately and unconditionally in love with each other. And so begins the forbidden relationship between a human and a vampire. However, the young lovers soon discover that their troubles are only just about to begin.
