MTS Ivory handset to offer 60 channels

BANGALORE: MTS, the mobile telephony services brand of Sistema TeleServices Limited (SSTL), today launched three models of smart phones.

The MTS Ivory, one of these models, can access MTS TV featuring up to 60 channels. The handset has a 3.2 WQVGA screen full touch screen.

“We have tied up with a content aggregator in Chennai for the channels and for the present will be charging only for the data download, even for television viewing on the MTS Ivory. At present we will not be recovering any subscription charges for this for now,” revealed SSTL chief strategy officer Cheenu Seshadri.

MTS will provide 20 GB data usage free for first two months for every subscriber of these devices, as an inaugural offer.

The three models launched today are MTS Ivory, MTS Buzz and MTS Alive.

“We plan to ramp up our ATL and BTL spends towards the MTS brand, for pushing our fast wireless internet connectivity – and for the Smart phones,” added Seshadri.

MTS plans to bring in around 6-8 Smart Phone models, including the Blackberry by the end of this year.

With its recent entry into the Maharashtra circle, the mobile player is present in 12 major circles in the country. Over the next few weeks, it plans to enter into 3 more circles. It offers high speed wireless services in 52 of the 100 major towns and cities in the country and plans to almost double this number shortly.
