Animax to be available in Thailand on Truevisions service

MUMBAI: Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) Networks Asia has done a carriage deal with TrueVisions pay-TV service in Thailand for Animax.

Animax, which has a subscription base of over 1.6 million, will launch on the service on 1 November. It will be available as a basic channel together with local free-to-air channels.

MCot president Tanawat Wansom said, "Animax is positioned to be one of the significant driver channels of MCOT‘s emerging pay-TV and new media platforms. It is a leading youth channel in Asia, and we are proud to be part of this joint project".

SPE Networks - Asia senior VP, GM Ricky Ow says, "The ground-breaking distribution deal represents a significant milestone for Animax. The channel now reaches a very sizeable and important segment of the youth and young adult audience in Thailand.

"With the best anime and the latest live-action Asian and US entertainment shows, Animax has a good programming mix to capture and hold viewers, especially if we offer a relevant and localised viewing experience. We will do so by providing for the first time, a daily Thai-dubbed programming hour during evening primetime, in addition to Thai subtitling for key and popular shows on Animax."

Thai viewers can look forward to catching anime shows including InuYasha and Hayate the Combat Butler. While anime remains the key programme offering on Animax, viewers can also enjoy Korean entertainment through a series of exclusive concert programmes in Live Power Music and youth reality series Pretty Boys and Girls.

Also to look out for will be top US youth lifestyle award shows such as the upcoming star-studded Video Game Awards and the Scream Awards which are coming to Animax.

Beyond the television, Animax will seek partnerships with local youth event organisers and youth communities, as well as workwith local youth talent to engage viewers on all fronts, to offer an all-round entertainment experience to viewers.
