Imagineindia Fest to screen India films

MUMBAI:The 10th Imagineindia International Film Festival, due to take place in Madrid from 17 to 31 May, will screen a number of India-made films.

The films that will compete in this year’s competition section include Girish Kasaravalli’s Riding the Stallion of Dreams, Rakesh Mehta’s Khuda Kushi, Dr. Biju Kumar’s The Way Home, Bela Negi’s Dayeen ya Baeen, Italo Spinelli’s Gangor, Kim Longinotto’s Pink Saris, Ananth Mahadevan’s I am Sindhutai Sapkal and Daniela Creutz’s Arranged Happiness.

TThe documentaries that will feature in the festival are Alfredo de Braganza’s Smoking Babas (portrays the world of the Sadhus), David Varela’s Banaras Me (a year-long effort to capture the enigmatic atmosphere of Varanasi), Javier Gomez Serrano’s Dhallywood (the Bangladeshi cinema industry) and José Luis Gutiérrez’s Color en Matruchhaya (healing properties of art in an Indian orphanage).

The Classics section will feature Raj Kapoor’s Barsaat, Guru Dutt’s Pyaasa, Abrar Alvi’s Sahib Bibi aur Gulam, Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar and Ritwick Ghatak’s Nagarik.

SOn the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Ravindranath Tagore; Satyajit Ray’s Teen Kanya, Charulata, Ghare Baire and Kumar Shahani’s Char Adhyay will be screened. Eleven short films by students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute will also be screened.

This year Vietnam would be the invited country in the Asian Section, while the International Section will screen films about gypsies and Australian aborigins.
