Six Indian directors set for promotion at Cannes

MUMBAI: The NFDC-sponsored Film Bazaar India at 64th Cannes Film Festival is set to introduce and promote six Indian directors that include Anurag Kashyap, Anusha Rizvi, Dibakar Banerjee, Haobam Paban Kumar, Laxmikant Shetgaonkar and Sekhar Kammula.

While Kashyap is known for films like Dev D and Black Friday, Rizvi made her debut this year with Peepli Live. Banerjee has won National Film Awards for two of his first films - Khosla Ka Ghosla and Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!

Paban Kumar is an award winning documentary filmmaker from Manipur, while Shetgaonkar’s The Man Beyond the Bridge won the FIPRESCI prize in the Discovery section of Toronto International Film Festival and Kammula is a Telugu filmmaker known for films like Happy Days and Anand.

The filmmakers have been chosen to represent the linguistic and cultural diversity of India. NFDC aims to introduce their work at Cannes and give them a platform to explore new relationships.

Film Bazaar India was set up by NFDC in 2007 with an objective to facilitating collaborations between the Indian film industry and the global film fraternity in the realms of production and distribution.
